Summer = Gang Gang Season

Summer = Gang Gang Season
A female gang munches on Hawthorn berries by Arthurs Creek

Our third summer in Hurstbridge saw a very good turn-out of Gang-Gang Cockatoos for around 2-3 months. Some evenings we had up to 40 of the creaky lil' guys enjoying our bird baths and the hawthorn berries by the creek across the road. One family lingered far longer than the rest, with 2 cheeky juveniles still gaining their strength for migration.

We love these feathered guests. One of my favourite memories of our first summer in Hurstbridge is spraying a group of Gang-Gangs with the garden hose on a 35degree day - they loved it! Spreading their wings and prancing around in the pine tree.

Hopefully they return once again next summer. This year they arrived en-masse around mid-to-late Jan.

I'm photographing wildlife with a Panasonic G9 and an Olympus 75-300mm. The auto-focus is woeful, and the slow aperture makes shooting birds at dusk challenging. But shooting in Raw means I can get away with underexposing shots and occasionally fluke a nice frame. 😀
